Presidential Succession
Should the president ever die there is a line of succession to take their place to maintain continuity of government and ensure the government is always functional in times of crisis. The order goes as follows:
- Vice President
- Speaker of the House
- President pro tempore of the Senate
- Secretary of State
- Secretary of the Tresury
- Secretary of Defense
- Attorney General
- Secretary of the Interior
- Secretary of Agriculture
- Secretary of Labor
- Secretary of Health and Human Services
- Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
- Secretary of Transportation
- Secretary of Energy
- Secretary of Education
- Secretary of Veterans Affairs
- Secretary of Homeland Security
These 17 people will never be in the same place at the same time. The secret service makes sure there is always one who is kept safely away in a position where they will be able to take over as the leader of the U.S.
